Bees

We have one colony of honey bees, bought as a nucleus and collected from E H Thorne Ltd of Lincolnshire. We have registered with the national Bee Base. Beekeeping is something we have wanted to do for a long time but the sudden arrival of a swarm in a goat-willow in 2024 prompted us to get on with it. We bought two hives from Thornes, moved the swarm into one of them, where they lived for a month to six weeks before leaving. Our first lesson that insects do what they want to do! In spring 2025 we bought the nucleus from Thornes and – so far, so good. They appear to be thriving. We are well aware we’ll never learn all there is to know about bees, but we’ll do our best to provide them with what they need. As we learn, we hope to add more hives.
